The IntelliNews Polish Tourism Sector Report offers an extensive summary of the most recent topics related to the Polish tourism market, segmented into hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, resorts and spas. It includes a complete coverage of the latest market developments and news, accompanied by thorough statistics and comments. The report pays particular attention to new development projects and investment inflows in the sector. This sector report is ideal to keep you abreast on recent company and industry news. Written by local professionals, it is a unique market and business intelligence analysis, tailored to save time by providing in-depth information, while helping you to make confident and informed business decisions.

The current year is extremely difficult for the industry and has been marked by negative events, influencing the branch's companies. After unusual events in the history this spring, when the presidential airplane crashed in Smolensk, a lot of VIPs did not make it to President Lech Kaczynski's funeral, as volcanic eruption took place in Island. The volcanic ashes paralysed the air transport in the whole Europe then. The culmination of the negative information for the branch were the floods in May and June, which afflicted mainly southern regions of Poland, where the majority of tourist attractions is located. What is the worst, the branch faced another stroke, when Greece, one of the most popular destinations for summer holidays, was facing the bankruptcy.

Still, in H1/2010, the tourism branch improved its results in annual terms. About 19.5mn visits abroad were posted (up by 10% y/y). At the same time, Poland was visited by 28.0mn foreigners (up by 9% y/y). The number of arrivals amounted to about 5.5mn (up by 4%). Invariably, official trips and sightseeing journeys prevail. In 2010, shopping-oriented tourism significantly rose.

The second half of the year brought further improvement and the most important period in the branch was met by more calm and with enterprises' hopes of making up for earlier losses. Companies achieved success in the summer period, despite some travel offices' bankruptcies, and major tourist companies posted better results in Q3/2010.
