The healthcare industry in the United States has been the sole industry keeping the moribund tablet computer market alive for several years. Although previous tablet-based computing devices have not enjoyed substantial consumer use computer-makers had thought they would, the healthcare industry's appetite for non-laptop portable computers can be traced back to the late 1990s, when technologists created prototype devices meant to replace medical professionals' clipboards and manage healthcare IT on one singular platform instead of multiple systems.
Nearly 50 healthcare and IT professionals were interviewed in conducting this research, which offers a framework for the potential the iPad holds for the healthcare industry. Quotes and anecdotes are given to support a forward-looking analysis that involves many moving parts: the device itself is expected to experience upgrades going forward, and new healthcare policy seeks to subsidize medical technology in new ways.
This research provides an evaluation of the healthcare industry's outlook for the iPad and its potential integration into the vast healthcare ecosystem.
Selected Report Benefits:
• Identify target applications for iPad in healthcare
• Understand barriers and strengths of iPad in healthcare
• Understand the fundamental driving forces for tablet computing in healthcare
• Understand the opportunities and challenges of iPad relative to healthcare policies

Taiwan leads Asia in sustainable high performance fibres and fabrics for performance apparel
At the Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup 2010, held in South Africa, Adidas and Nike provided their respective sponsored teams with kits containing performance polyester fabrics made from recycled materials in Taiwan.
This is no accident. Taiwanese firms have been carefully cultivating their lead over other Asian countries in functional fibres and fabrics for performance apparel for about 15 years.
More recently, emphasis has been placed on sustainable technologies and recycled synthetic fibres.
The need for Taiwan's textile industry to transform itself was becoming apparent at the time of the first TITAS (Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show) in 1997.
At that time, the industry in Taiwan comprised as many as 6,000 mills with a combined annual turnover of NT$680 bn (US$23.7 bn). Even so, the writing was on the wall for rapid change.
Today the industry is only a fraction of what it was then in terms of size, but it is probably much more focused.
According to the secretary general of the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), Justin Huang, 1997 was "the time of the first Asian financial crisis, but also of the huge build-up of textile operations in China. We quickly realised we would be unable to compete in any way with China on volume, but we were also experiencing a labour shortage at that time, which added to our problems."

Survey of the European Fabric Fairs for Autumn/Winter 2011/12
This update summarises the mood and trends at the European fabric fairs for autumn/winter 2011/12. The author of the report visited Prima Moda Tessuto, Munich Fabric Start, Milano Unica, Première Vision Pluriel and Texworld, where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends were proving to be the most popular. The mood at this season’s fairs was more optimistic compared with the atmosphere a year before. Two factors appear to be working in European fabric manufacturers’ favour. First, there appears to be a growing appetite for European luxury goods in certain developing markets which have the disposable income to pay for them, and second, fabric buyers working for European clothing producers have been switching some of their sourcing away from Asian mills to suppliers nearer home.
